Chapter 16: Interrogations, revelations and other stuff........

Wynter stood back and admired her handy work with a frown. In front of her Constable Marche was seated in a kitchen chair his hands cuffed behind his back; duct tape holding him upright while also constricting his ankles to the chair legs. She was fairly certain that he wasn’t going anywhere. It was the best she could manage having somewhat limited resources and experience in restraining someone.
Her cell phone rang, making her jump. Glancing at it she saw that it was Rayne. Turning it off she stuck it back in her pocket and paced the room...well limped across the room as her right foot was paining. She stopped the moment she heard Marche stir. Turning to look at him she waited for him to come around.
When he did she let him panic for a moment or so. “Why did you shoot Tanner?” she demanded.
“You’re still under his spell” snorted Marche in disgust and then moaned as he strained against the duct tape attempting to break it but only succeeding in making his head feel worse.
Wynter wanted to hit him again. “Why did you shoot him?” she repeated through clenched teeth.
“You has no idea what you’re dealing wit” he said glaring up at her.
“Why don’t you enlighten me?” said Wynter crossing her arms over her chest.
“Waste of my time” he said looking at her with a sneer.
Wynter made a fist but moved no closer to the irritating man. “Fine....I’ll just call Rayne then”
“You do that” he commented with a smug smile “Ain’t no way your brother can protect you from this”
“Protect me from what? Self defence?”she quirked an eyebrow at him.
“Assaulting an officer” he corrected.
“Isn’t that what you did?” she accused as she sat on the couch and placed her feet on the coffee table, propping her right foot on top of a stack of newspapers while the left was stretched out beside it.
“I was doing my job; protecting the community from a threat!”
“You think Tanner’s a threat?” said Wynter with a shake of her head “Funny how you’re the one who shot him with a gun an’ he never done a ting to you!”
“He killed dem people an’ if you weren’t so Fairy led you’d see it too!”he exclaimed angrily; his eyes bugged out and his face was going a slight shade of purple with rage.
Wynter snorted at him. “Oh it was no fairy who killed Sarah...if you did your job you’d know that”
“Look ‘ere woman! I maybe tied up to dis here chair but I won’ stand fer you to insult me to my face!” he leaned forward and almost toppled over while he yelled at her.
Getting up Wynter moved behind him and pulled the chair back with a plunk she then leaned over to talk in his ear. “That’s too damn bad ain’t it? Tell me dis; you ever look for Sarah’s boyfriend? Neil Driscoll? Kind of strange dat he hasn’t been seen since Sarah’s body showed up....but sure lets blame da fairies! ‘Cause the lord knows dat a human can’t commit murder!”
“The fairies took him too! We searched for him and can’t find him!” he exclaimed and again Wynter resisted the urge to strike him.
“Wow....I’m speechless...You sure convinced me there Constable...the fairies did it!” said Wynter hobbling over to the couch again. Her foot was really throbbing now.
“You’re a right bitch y’know that?” said Marche glaring at her.
“Not true...I’m just fairy led is all” replied Wynter with a sarcastic grin. “Now that we have that cleared up, you mind telling me what you were doing here aside from shooting Tanner of course”
*************
Tanner awoke slowly to the sound of birds singing and sunlight spilling over his face. Blinking he looked at his surroundings with confusion. He was in a four poster bed much larger than one he had ever owned much less slept in and the room looked something like a cross between Better Home and Gardens and The Lord of the Rings.....all wooden furniture and natural materials...He felt his stomach lurch as comprehension dawned upon him.
He was in his father’s realm.
Flinging back the covers he got to his feet and moved to the door only to have it open before he reached it. Standing in its frame was a woman with pale blonde hair and violet coloured eyes that were echoed in her dress and jewels. “I thought we had an understanding” she said without a preamble as she swept past him into the room.
“Niamh” Tanner greeted her with a slight incline of his head. “I didn’t come here out of my own free will; which I’m certain you are well aware of.....”
“You will see your father and then you will leave and never come back is that understood? I will not tolerate your presence here Lorcan. This is my home” she spoke evenly but her eyes blazed with hatred.
“And I have no desire to take it from you or my brothers” said Tanner with a sigh as he ran his fingers through his hair in agitation. Whenever he met his ...step-mother...they had the same conversation over and over. He wanted to shake some sense into her for no matter what he said or did she saw him as a threat to her station and her children...
Truth be told he was a very viable one, for he was held in greater esteem then either of his siblings with the King. That however was due to Tanners utter lack of interest in seizing the crown unlike his brothers who often spoke of their impending reins....
“You say that but I fail to believe that you would pass over any scrap of power your father hands you....No one is that foolish, no matter what their upbringing may be.” She glanced at him with disdain. Her eyes flickered to the left of Tanner and he felt a hand clamp down on his shoulder.
“He’s waiting” said Cayden gruffly and with that Tanner was escorted from the room. Tanner had a feeling that this was not going to be a happy father-son reunion.
